Orlistat ... Too Good To Be True?

A few years ago a drug called Orlistat was developed to help BLOCK fat calories from the meals you eat. There are two forms of Orlistat available - The prescription 120 mg version called Xenical® and an over the counter 60 mgs version called Alli®.

What seemed like a great idea at the beginning, soon turned into a "messy" one.

ORLISTAT (Xenical® & Alli®) "Fat Blocker" Side-Effects
1. Too many side effects (diarrhea and nausea are VERY common)
2. Extremely expensive (minimum of $100 or more a MONTH!)
3. It only blocked fats, but did nothing about carbohydrates - the other major reason for getting fat (due to over production of insulin from high blood sugar).

Clinical Stats On Orlistat Usage

Below are "Commonly Observed Adverse Events" based on FIRST YEAR usage of Orlistat, at 120 mgs, 3x daily. Which is a TOTAL of 3 capsules of Xenical or 6 capsules of Alli daily usage.

Adverse Side-Effects Orlistat
% Patients = 1913
Placebo
% Patients = 1466
Oily Spotting 36.3 1.1
Flatus Gas with Discharge 33.8 0.8
Fecal Urgency 29.3 2.4
Fatty/Oily Stool 24.9 1.3
Oily Evacuation 22.6 0.4
Increased Defecation 18.7 1.9
Fecal Incontinence 13.3 0.7

As you can clearly see with the above table, individuals using Orlistat, had some VERY uncomfortable and EXTREMELY embarrassing "episodes" and negative side-effects.

My Personal Experiencing With Xenical

Now, in all honesty, I DID give Xenical a try when it first came out. I was curious to see if it really worked and if it would be worth the "risk", based on the side-effects. After all, how cool would it be to still eat some fat and not gain weight?

But at the prescribed 120 mg dosage, it just gave me a lot of side-effects - mainly BATHROOM issues (if you know what I mean). And the longer I was on it and higher the dose, the worse the side-effects got!

Xenical (Orlistat)

Alli - New 60 mg Over-The-Counter Dosage

Alli - Lots Of Side-EffectsRecently, a non-prescription OTC version was available - which is HALF the dosage of the prescription Xenical and hence, instead of 120mgs, it's 60 mgs. I haven't given it a try, but half a dozen of my patients have and they have said the side-effects are less, but they have seen NO results after 2 months of usage (hence, a waste of money!). They had to double the dose to see some weight loss, but then the side-effects started.

Conclusion - It's An Easy Decision ...

CHEATmeals - the clear winnerWhy take an EXPENSIVE drug that at the correct effective dosage, has some very uncomfortable and embarrassing negative effects ... and at a lower dosage does NOTHING (except empty your wallet)... When you can take CHEATmeals™, which has NONE of the side effects, it's a fraction of the price AND blocks carbohydrates and sugars, in addition to the fat?!! It's a clear choice ... CHEATmeals™ wins every time!
